And yet \u2014 to be honest \u2014 I sometimes fall back into that old trap: wanting too much, too fast, too perfectly. That\u2019s when I set the bar just a bit too high.<\/p><p data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"874\">On paper, it seems efficient. You think: \u201cWith a bit of extra focus and determination, I can get this done.\u201d And often, it works \u2014 for a while.<br data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"629\" \/>But then comes the frustration, the lack of flexibility, and the sense that it wasn\u2019t fully thought through. I may have moved four steps forward\u2026 but two steps back. Eventually, I threw in the towel. So I ask myself: <em data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"874\">was that truly effective?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a174c85 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a174c85\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-313ed15 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"313ed15\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"1099\">There\u2019s plenty written about goal setting. Goals should be measurable, clear, positively framed \u2014 and ambitious. But sometimes, perhaps not <em data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1021\">too<\/em> ambitious. That\u2019s the fine line: between challenge and self-imposed pressure.<\/p><p data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1125\">What helps me is asking:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1277\"><li data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1154\"><p data-start=\"1128\" data-end=\"1154\">Why do I really want this?<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1155\" data-end=\"1205\"><p data-start=\"1157\" data-end=\"1205\">Does it feel right? Does it align with who I am?<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1237\"><p data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1237\">Who else benefits besides me?<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1277\"><p data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1277\">Is it aligned with my deeper longing?<\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a4b9f45 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a4b9f45\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8461500 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8461500\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1385\">When I answer honestly, the bar often adjusts itself to a level that feels both achievable and meaningful.<\/p><p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1588\">Then comes the real work: <strong data-start=\"1413\" data-end=\"1428\">commitment.<\/strong> Daily action toward your goal. That\u2019s where the magic happens. And the key mantra is:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5bd979e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5bd979e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c6c6472 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c6c6472\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cBe flexible <em data-start=\"1532\" data-end=\"1536\">in<\/em> your commitment, but not <em data-start=\"1562\" data-end=\"1568\">with<\/em> your commitment.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c5b5e1b e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"c5b5e1b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df94c00 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"df94c00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1820\">There has to be room \u2014 for detours, for life, for recalibration. That might mean spending less time some days, but never breaking the chain. Because if the chain breaks, the energy fades. It signals: this isn\u2019t a priority anymore.<\/p><p data-start=\"1822\" data-end=\"2030\">That sounds harsh. And for many of us, that triggers self-criticism \u2014 even a sense of failure. But what if you looked at it differently? With compassion. Maybe your goal was more ego-driven than soul-aligned.<\/p><p data-start=\"2032\" data-end=\"2124\"><strong>So celebrate what <em data-start=\"2050\" data-end=\"2055\">did<\/em> go well. What did you learn? What will you do differently next time?<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2358\">You don\u2019t have to be less ambitious to be more effective.<br data-start=\"2183\" data-end=\"2186\" \/>And you don\u2019t need more rules or pressure.<br data-start=\"2228\" data-end=\"2231\" \/>You just need to stay connected to what\u2019s truly yours \u2014 and not be led astray by that little sabotaging voice inside your head.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a9c6d16 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a9c6d16\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6d0b64b e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"6d0b64b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e11f58c e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"e11f58c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-818a3e5 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"818a3e5\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ambition is powerful \u2014 until it works against you.<\/p>\n<p>In this blog, I explore what happens when we set the bar just a bit too high.
