Collecting Happiness

True happiness isn’t found in fleeting pleasure — it lives beyond the mind, in the quiet space of awareness, balance, and authenticity. In this reflection, I explore how we can reconnect with that inner source of peace through self-awareness and presence. Learn how to collect moments of happiness in daily life — not by chasing more, but by coming home to what’s already within you.

There is a difference between happiness and pleasure

Pleasure is related to desire

It’s ephemeral and finite

Where as true happiness

Is infinite and comes from a place of equanimity

When you feel pleasure you do touch this happy place within

It’s power is briefly revealed

When you experience pain, you can also feel it in your body

Nevertheless pleasure and pain are both a product of the mind

They’re always related to attachments

When we meditate we try to still the senses and calm the mind

In order to really calm the mind however we need to go beyond the mind

What is it that resides beyond the mind?

That requires wisdom, and wisdom says:

It’s happiness,

It’s OKness,

It’s contentment, power and love to name a few.

It’s that which connects us all

It’s the one who is aware of what you’re doing, thinking and feeling

It’s you, it’s me and it’s the guy nextdoor

Yes, we’re all happiness, but we forgot.

It’s not so strange, afterall the world turns, a lot is happening all the time

Joy and sorrow visit us daily

So what can we do?

We can collect moments of happiness

Through awareness,

Though attitude and

Through authenticity

Through being in the moment

As all we seek is right here within us.

How self-aware are you?

I invite you to find this out for yourself

On just one beautiful fall morning

Saturday November 15th 2015 in Haarlem

I’ll help you remember

And you’ll take home at least one thing that shifts everything!

Authentic leadership: why is it so hard – and why does it matter

Authentic leadership is widely embraced and rarely well understood. It’s often confused with transparency or with “being yourself” — while the heart of it lies elsewhere: in the ability to let go of control and honestly observe what’s truly going on. Drawing on Susan Campbell’s Getting Real and research from Harvard Business Review, this blog explores why authenticity is so hard, why it becomes decisive for leadership precisely under pressure, how leaders can put it into practice, and how a spiritual perspective can be crucial in all of this.

Flipping the Glass…

In this reflective piece, I explore how mindfulness and presence can transform leadership and team dynamics – even in high-pressure environments like the boardroom. Inspired by a conversation in Italy about “boardroom yoga,” this story reveals why timing, energy, and inner balance matter for leaders and teams alike. When organizations – non-profit or for-profit – cultivate practices that recharge and align body, heart, and mind, performance, creativity, and authentic leadership naturally follow.
